This acronym stands for Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance – and covers a wide range of resources for our students from year 7 through to year 11 and beyond.
At the Academy we have a Level 6 qualified Careers Adviser, Miss H Boreham and a designated Careers Lead, Mr A Starkey; both can be contacted either by email, or by ringing the Academy switchboard (01787 375131) and asking to leave a message (if they are not immediately available to talk to.)
Career Education at Ormiston Sudbury Academy
At Ormiston Sudbury Academy we are committed to providing good quality careers education to ensure our students can make well informed decisions about their future. Our Careers Programme is centred around the eight Gatsby Benchmarks to deliver good career guidance and promote a wide range of opportunities for students to engage with employers, apprenticeship providers, further and higher education institutions, so that students understand the vast range of career pathways available to them when they leave the Academy.
Detailed information about our careers programme can be found via the link on the left-hand side of the page. (Please note this is subject to change dues to opportunities arising throughout the year.)
All students have access to the career platform, “Unifrog,” to help them explore career related topics and record their career learning to reflect on in the future. Year 10 and 11 students are able to build a psychometric profile that links to subjects and careers, enabling them to search for opportunities to explore these in greater depth.
We believe that it is important for students to being their career learning early, which is why our career programme offers activities from Year 7 to inspire and motivate our students to fulfil their potential. Career lessons are delivered through the PSHE curriculum and cover many different topics from Year 7 -11, tailored to their needs at each stage.
Miss Boreham and Mr Starkey meet regularly to organise and plan upcoming opportunities and activities for students and to review the Careers Programme being delivered to our students. Our last ‘full’ review took place in the summer/autumn terms of 2023 when we were delighted to have been advised that we have retained the national ‘Quality in Careers’ standard, using the Career Mark approach provided by Complete Careers. Our next full review will take place in summer 2025.
