During PE lessons, students are challenged to undertake skills, tactics and strategies in a diverse range of sporting activities. Students follow a curriculum tailor made to their own physical literacy and ongoing interests, and lessons are designed to maximize physical activity for sustained periods of time.

Students are expected to adopt our core values of fairness and respect and develop other essential skills such as teamwork, perseverance and resilience.

Students learn the importance physical activity, diet and exercise has on maintenance of good health in order to obtain the underpinning knowledge necessary to make well-informed future lifestyle choices.

At Key Stage Three, students are introduced to a broad and balanced curriculum, which aims to develop the motor skills and attributes necessary for mental, emotional and physical well-being now and in the future. Specific attention is placed on providing wider outcomes through PE by understanding the importance of leading an active, healthy lifestyle.

Students are introduced to competition which aims to develop self-esteem and broaden limitations on what can be achieved. Teamwork, perseverance and leadership skills are themes that underpin all lessons.

Students experience challenges, which inspire them, build resilience and encourage the development of positive relationships. This aims to provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way that will support their health and fitness at school and for the rest of their lives.

Year 7
Students are introduced to a wide range of activities, which aim to develop their motor skills as well as their social and co-operative skills. Through involvement in a range of invasion and striking and fielding games they will develop their team-work and interaction skills. Gymnastic and Dance activities aim to develop creativity and the ability to compose routines. There is an emphasis on the importance of fitness, health and well-being throughout the delivery of all activities.

Year 8
Students continue to follow a broad variety of activities aiming to develop knowledge and understanding of rules, strategies and tactics. Their motor skills are refined and they are accountable for analysing and providing feedback on the performance of themselves and others.  There is a focus on the development of student responsibility for health and fitness.

Year 9
Students continue to follow a wide range of activities. There is an emphasis on leadership and coaching; solving problems, working within a team and working collaboratively with others, aiming to develop confidence and a lifetime involvement in sport. They are encouraged to be physically confident in a way that supports their health and fitness.

Students’ will build on the skills learnt during KS3 and be challenged to undertake complex and demanding skills, tactics and strategies in a diverse range of sporting activities. Students will follow a curriculum tailor made to their own physical literacy and ongoing interests. The lessons are designed to maximise physical activity for a sustained period of time and provide students with the opportunity to maintain and improve personal fitness. Students’ will develop knowledge of complex tactics and strategies and be encouraged to employ these independently during gameplay and evaluate the effectiveness of their decisions.

Physical activity will enable students to build character and resilience and embed the core values of fairness and respect. Students will be encouraged to participate in extra-curricular sport and engage in competitive sport, making full use of our extensive links to local sports clubs and leisure facilities to continue to promote a healthy active lifestyle.
